What is the floor toilet? · The Bathroom Gem Floor Toilet is a complete system combining an easy to use leg bag release with a self-flushing floor mounted toilet which automatically drains the discharge from the bag. The flushing mechanism is self-activated when the wheelchair is rolled onto the toilet and stops when the wheelchair is rolled off the toilet. Who can use the floor toilet? · Any individual who uses a wheelchair and has a leg bag can use the Bathroom Gem Floor Toilet. · It is specifically designed to be used by individuals who currently need assistance with draining their leg bag. How does it work? · The Bathroom Gem Floor toilet utilizes an electronic sensor which activates the flushing mechanism when a wheelchair is rolled onto the toilet. · A heavy-duty pump discharges the waste material into a conventional toilet or drain. · The Bathroom Gem Spring Leg Bag Release (or any other leg bag release system) allows the individual to easily let their leg bag drain into the floor toilet. · After the leg bag has been drained, the individual rolls away from the floor toilet and the flushing mechanism stops. Is it difficult to install? · We offer two different models of the floor toilet which are very easy to install by any plumber. · The Bathroom Gem Wedge Toilet sits directly on top of any floor without requiring any cut-outs in the floor. One two foot tube connects to a water supply (such as the cold water pipe of a sink or toilet) using a 3/8” T-connector. Another five foot tube can be connected to the lip of a conventional toilet for drainage. The unit can be installed with the drain on either the right or left side of the ramp. The ramp also includes a toe kick to help keep the wheelchair aligned and prevent it from rolling off the side of the ramp. · The Bathroom Gem Floor Toilet is designed to sit flush with the floor and requires a small cut-out in the floor (it will easily fit between most homes’ floor joists). Like the Wedge Toilet, it uses a two foot tube to connect to a water supply and a five foot tube for drainage. |

It also can easily be moved from one location to another (for example in a hotel). · The floor pump toilet is designed to be used where a cut-out can be made in the floor but is impractical to attach to the structures drainage system. Is it safe to use? · All components used in the floor toilet are passed by Underwriters Laboratories. · All units are constructed from 100% stainless steel. · All the electric components are contained above the floor for safe operation and easy access. · The unit uses a GFI (ground fault interruptible) built into the plug. It can be plugged into any grounded power outlet. · The unit has a timer which will automatically stop the flushing action after 5 minutes and it is also protected by a fuse in case of a power surge. What kind of warranties come with the floor toilet? · The leg bag release system comes with a six month warranty on parts and labor. · The floor toilet comes with a one year warranty on both the pump and electronic sensor unit. What if something breaks or it stops working? · All components are above the floor and easily accessible in case they need to be replaced. · Under the warranty period, we will ship replacement parts to the individual at no cost. How long can the floor toilet be used before needing to replace? · Because the units are constructed with 100% heavy gauge stainless steel, they should last for a lifetime. What are the health benefits? · Because the floor toilet allows the individual to drain their leg bag without having to have their leg lifted, it reduces the chance of reflux of the bag’s contents into the individuals bladder and kidneys. · It reduces the chance of urinary tract infections and attendant hospital stays. · It reduces the chance of the leg bag getting full before the individual has a chance to drain the bag. · It allows the individual to self-manage their fluid intake levels, giving them the ability to increase their intake of fluids. What are the other benefits? · It reduces the chances of spills and messes. · It provides for easy cleanup and results in more sanitary conditions in the home and workplace. · It allows the individual to perform daily tasks quickly without the aid of others on their own schedule. · In business and public facilities it reduces the time away from work and other activities. · Most importantly, it allows individuals to live a life of quality, dignity and inclusion. While disability is a part of life, it does not mean being excluded from living an independent life. Will it help save me money? · If the individual is currently paying for personal assistance services to help in draining their leg bag, substantial savings can be realized. · If one or two visits per day could be eliminated because the individual can now empty their leg bag on their own, the potential savings could be over $29,000 per year (based on 1 visit per day at $80 per visit). · The floor toilet could pay for itself in as little as 2 to 4 weeks. · The reduce chance of infections and hospital stays would offer substantial savings. How does the leg bag emptier work? · The leg bag’s tubing is crimped by a spring-driven cylinder to stop the flow of the liquid from leaving the bag. · An easy to use lever is pushed (requiring approximately 3 to 4 pounds of pressure, the weight of a forearm) which draws a cable to pull the cylinder away from the tubing allowing the liquid to flow from the bag. · After the bag has drained, releasing the lever allows the spring to again crimp the tubing to stop any flow of the liquid from the bag. What are the benefits of the leg bag emptier? · The emptier is extremely durable, reliable, maintenance free and does not require daily cleaning. · The emptier does not require any power supply and will work with any type of wheelchair. · The emptier can be mounted on either the left or right side of the chair. · The individual can regain independence at home and in public. No more asking for others for help in the restroom. · Unlike electric bag releases, the emptier produces no heat and no solenoids which might burn out and need to be replaced regularly. Are there other products that I could use instead? · While there are other electric leg bag emptiers available, ours is the only one which is mechanical and does not require any power supply. · We know of no other floor toilet product which is available. Our products are protected by international patents |
